The demands placed on buildings designed for mental health use are numerous and diverse. Standard considerations such as security, safety, hygiene and durability take on a new significance, whilst more specific factors such as anti-barricade and anti-ligature measures create a unique challenge.
i-slide® is an anti-ligature pocket door solution for ensuite bathrooms and other personal areas. The i-slide® and i-leaf represent a huge leap forward in the use of anti-ligature technology in the care of the most vulnerable patients. Only the best components have been used in the design of two unique door products for use in the most rigorous environments. Our doorsets for mental health applications have been designed with safety and operability at the forefront. Smart design and technology are combined to create leading edge solutions.
i-slide® prevents the use of even the smallest of ligatures such as shoelaces and belts and has been developed to remove all possible ligature points around the doorset and its components. This can only be achieved with a pocket door which removes access to the top edge of the door leaf. Doors are the most common ligature points and to date there has been no effective alternative to remove the risk associated with pivot doors.
i-slide® copes with many difficult scenarios which can arise in mental health environments including dirty protest, barricades, bodily impacts, tampering and physical abuse. Features include simple overpanel and door removal, rigid steel pocket sidewalls with multi-layer coverings, maintenance access via concealed anti-tamper fixings and options for low energy automatic operators, proximity, keypad, biometric and key switches.
i-leaf is a safer mental health door system for bedrooms and other observed areas. Our i-leaf anti-barricade doorset is a safer door system for bedrooms and other observed locations. It is a robust solution supplied with all components pre-fitted for ease of installation and incorporates our online access control solution which gives real time audit information to a central PC. The doorset allows normally inward opening doors to be released manually or electronically in order to open outwards in an emergency. This can be done centrally from a PC or locally by staff using a key fob or card.
The system has three main components, the pivot hinge – a full length double action hinge, the hinged removable door stop and a choice of vision panels including our switchable glass solution which can be changed to from opaque to clear simply by pressing a button, swiping a fob or a range of other activation methods.
Only the best components have been used in the design of these two unique door products. Monaghan’s doorsets for mental health applications have been designed for use in the most rigorous environments with safety and operability at the forefront. Impact resistant, reduced ligature and anti-barricade bedroom doorsets.
Providing a comfortable, relaxing and safe environment is essential to the well-being of the service user. Bedrooms should be an area of solace where care and safety is of utmost importance.
The door leading into the bedroom is pivotal to this: instant access in barricade situations; privacy viewing panels giving the user total privacy; a range of anti-ligature measures to ensure complete safety.
Our single leaf and leaf and a half bedroom doorsets have been designed and manufactured specifically to provide a complete solution that overcomes abuse, anti-ligature and barricade solutions, allowing inward opening doors to be opened outwards quickly in an emergency.
Impact and water resistant, reduced ligature, anti fingertrap and suicide prevention ensuite doorsets.

The ensuite doorset has been designed and manufactured specifically to provide a complete solution that overcomes abuse and ligature issues.
Reduced ligature & anti-barricade communal doorsets.
Communal areas, including corridors are often seen as the heart of a facility where many users, staff, family and friends pass through or meet.
The touch points in these high traffic areas are subjected to high usage and often require more frequent maintenance.
Ash Villa is a 13 bedded acute inpatient unit for young people aged 13 to 18 years who are experiencing acute or complex mental health difficulties, where the need for anti-ligature doorsets and anti-barricade features was essential.
